Quizlet Import: Format, Separators & Fixes (2026)
Quizlet's import box is simple — paste text, pick separators, done. Most import failures come from one place: separators that also live inside your definitions. Here's the format that works.
Updated August 2026.
The format Quizlet accepts
Quizlet imports pasted text, one card per line (or block). You choose two separators in the import box:
- Between term and definition — tab, comma, or a custom separator (like a dash).
- Between cards — new line or semicolon.
photosynthesis the process plants use to convert light into energy mitochondria the organelle that produces ATP
Tab-separated (above) is the sturdiest choice: definitions often contain commas, but almost never tabs.
Import, step by step
- Create a set and choose the import option.
- Paste your text into the box.
- Set the separators to match your text (term/definition and card-to-card), check how the cards parsed, and import.
When the import splits wrong
- Definitions cut in half → your term/definition separator (usually a comma) also appears inside definitions. Switch the text to tab-separated, or pick a custom separator that never appears in your content.
- Multiple cards merged into one → the card separator doesn't match (e.g., your text uses semicolons but new-line is selected).
- From a CSV file → Quizlet's delimiter-based import box takes pasted text: open the CSV, copy the rows, paste with comma selected — or convert to tabs first for safety.
From an AI study chat, without hand-formatting
